We're sorry to say but we just don't have the time to keep stupidbut.com up and running. We will leave it up for a few months so that you'll be able to use it as a reference and for entertainment purposes. We thank you for all of your questions and being loyal readers and hope to see you on one of our other ventures soon. We will no longer be accepting new questions.
Okay, since we haven't been great about updating the site - we decided to use this post as a place for all of you to post your questions and then see if you, the readers, can answer the questions on your own. All you have to do is post your questions in the comments box below and wait for the answers to get posted by your fellow readers!
ANSWER: Here's our thought...usually bread is in a bag that keeps it moist. Bread gets moldy when the moisture is trapped in there for a few days and then it gets moldy. If you leave fresh bread out, it will just dry out and not mold (no moisture). So many times when making breadcrumbs fresh, it's advised to just lay the bread out on racks and let them air dry.
Why do we say someone is feeling "under the weather"?
ANSWER: When it's gray and rainy out, does that affect how you feel? This expression comes from the idea that bad weather might hurt a person's health and mood. The saying also may be related to "under the weather bow," the part of a boat that will take the force of rough seas during stormy weather. If you were in that part of the boat, you might get seasick! source
Why does salt melt ice? Why does cat litter melt ice? (<---this part needs to be answered by you, the readers in the comment section below)
ANSWER:
Two things happen when ice and water are placed in contact:
Molecules on the surface of the ice escape into the water (melting), and
molecules of water are captured on the surface of the ice (freezing).
When the rate of freezing is the same as the rate of melting, the amount of ice and the amount of water won't change on average (although there are short-term fluctuations at the surface of the ice). The ice and water are said to be in dynamic equilibrium with each other. The balance between freezing and melting can be maintained at 0°C, the melting point of water, unless conditions change in a way that favors one of the processes over the other.
Why is that when men hang a picture or hook or build a cupboard that they hang it so high. So that a shorter person has to stand on something to use it. This is not only a question but a pet peeve!
Why is it that eyebrows only grow to a certain length and then stop?
ANSWER:Thanks to Matt Kneale for this answer:
All eyebrows stop growing a specific point, and everybody has a different length in which theirs will stop growing (although most peoples are pretty simular). This is the reason why some people have longer than others, and some shorter than others. The reason for this difference is down to how your body is genetically programmed. There is a gene programmed for how long your eyebrows grow, and they will never grow beyond this value. The question sometimes arises "How do hairs know when to grow?". The answer to this is that there are another set of hairs you don't see, inside the hair follicle. This hairs are constantly maturing and as they grow they push up the old hair, forming a cycle. Again, there is a gene to control the length at which the follicle will stop creating new hair. image source

Can a person really die from lack of sleep? If so, how long can a person go with out sleeping before they die?
ANSWER: There is no real evidence that someone can actually die of lack of sleep however, lack of sleep is a very common cause of accidents of all kinds that can lead to death and lack of sleep also suppresses the immune system which can lead to illnessness and sudden death.
What's the longest you've ever heard someone going with out sleep?
If our body tempertature is 37 degrees celsius, why are we uncomfortably hot when the outside tempertature is 37 degrees C?
ANSWER:We feel uncomfortable in hot weather because we sweat as a way of losing heat and most people do not enjoy sweating. The blood vessels to our skin become dilated as another mechanism to lose heat from the body and this flushing is also uncomfortable. Furthermore, your body is telling you not to engage in activity and yet we usually must continue some activities. Therefore we are doing something our internal controls are advising us against. This gives us some general discomfort. But even when it is 37 degrees outside and you feel uncomfortable, presuming that one is not out running a marathon and if you maintain adequate hydration to allow sweating to continue, your body temperature will remain normal. source

So keep your questions coming and I promise to get some new questions up today for the next couple of days.
Is there really any evidence that blondes are less intelligent than other people? There are so many blonde jokes..and quite honestly, I know a blonde or two who fit the description!
ANSWER:According to Yahoo! Answers: "Your hair color has absolutely nothing to do with your level of intelligence. I am a natural blonde and my IQ is quite a bit above average. I also have plenty of common sense.
We're not sure why this stereotype is so popular, but I can take a guess. People are often attracted features that are less common. Blonde hair (natural blonde, anyway) is much less common than brown, so it used to be seen as a novelty that really attracted men. When hair dye was invented, many women dyed thier hair blonde because of this. However, back when hair dye and makeup first became popular, it attracted a certain type of woman, if you know what I mean (and movie stars too). As the years went on, many women that were very shallow and superficial continued to dye their hair light blonde and wear a lot of makeup. This was highlighted in movies and pop culture." source
